Pune-based label converter Samyak is stepping up its in-mould labelling (IML) capabilities with a 450-mm die-cutting and converting machine from Vinsak. The investment, announced at LOUPE India 2026 in Greater Noida, is part of a broader push towards high-end label production.

For Samyak, the move into IML is about more than adding another product to its portfolio. It involves developing the technical expertise and production consistency needed to meet the exacting requirements of an application in which converting precision directly affects the quality of the finished product.

Samyak business operations manager Samyak Kothari said IML had become a strategic focus after he joined the family business about 18 months ago. The company’s investment in Vinsak equipment reflects its efforts to build the capabilities required to serve this market.

Kothari said the decision was shaped by the support Samyak received from Vinsak while evaluating its requirements and addressing technical challenges. “We had several technical challenges to work through, and Vinsak’s team helped us address them with practical solutions. Their willingness to work with us made a real difference,” Kothari said.

The relationship between the two companies goes back several years. Samyak director Rajendra Kothari said the company’s experience with Vinsak had played an important role in its latest investment.

Samyak purchased a Lombardi press in 2021, and the support it received from Vinsak’s team strengthened its confidence in the supplier. Kothari particularly highlighted the service team’s continued assistance with the Lombardi equipment, even though the machine was no longer directly under Vinsak’s responsibility.

From variable data to high-end labels

Samyak’s evolution as a label converter began with plain labels, barcode labels and variable data labels. Before entering manufacturing, the business had been involved in trading and dealing in hardware.

A visit to Labelexpo in 2012 introduced the company to the wider possibilities of the label industry. Samyak subsequently acquired a second-hand narrow-web press, marking its entry into label converting.

The 2021 investment in a Lombardi press represented another step in the company’s development, supporting its move towards product labels and higher-value converting applications. Although variable data labels remain part of its business, Samyak has increasingly focused on more technically demanding segments, including IML.

For Kothari, the appeal of IML lies in the opportunity to serve customers with exacting quality requirements. “IML is a segment where quality cannot be compromised. The label becomes part of the finished pack, so every aspect of its production, particularly converting accuracy and consistency, has to be right. We see a good opportunity to grow in this market by building the capabilities to meet these requirements,” Kothari said.

Building capacity across production

The Vinsak investment is one part of a wider programme to strengthen Samyak’s production capabilities. The company is also adding a Gallus Labelmaster press for label production and an AVT inspection system. Together, the investments cover different stages of the production process, from printing and converting to inspection and quality control.

“We are strengthening our capabilities across printing, converting and inspection so that we can take on more challenging label applications. IML is an important part of our growth plans, and these investments will help us build the capacity and consistency the segment demands,” Kothari concluded.
