Valmet to deliver QC system for corrugator to Penha, Brazil

-

Valmet will deliver an IQ quality control system for corrugator for optimizing sheet quality to Grupo Penha’s packaging plant in Itapira, São Paulo state, Brazil.

The order was included in Valmet’s orders received of the fourth quarter 2024. The value of the order will not be disclosed. The start-up is scheduled for the third quarter 2025.

The Penha packaging plant produces corrugated cardboard packaging for various industries. The order includes a comprehensive package featuring quality control systems with three scanners, a moisturizer system, and automatic warp control and moisture profiling for corrugated sheets, enabling the mill to improve productivity and end-product quality.

“We are excited to develop this innovative project together with Valmet. In Brazil, climate conditions vary greatly from one region to another, making it impossible to effectively control the moisture profile when we receive a paper roll. We will be installing this Valmet system on our brand-new corrugator machine, and we hope that Valmet’s technology and know-how will help us solve, once and for all, the chronic problem of paperboard sheet warping and paper roll moisture profiles that we have been facing. We are confident that this will allow us to maximize our production efficiency,” says Rodrigo Godoy, project manager at Grupo Penha.

“Valmet’s first delivery of the IQ quality control system for corrugators in the Americas marks a significant step into the corrugated board industry in Brazil and beyond. Leveraging our pulp and paper quality control expertise and a strong global track record, this solution ensures better quality, reduced waste, and increased productivity. Our local team is fully prepared to support customers in achieving their goals,” says Angelo Leite da Silva, product sales manager for QCS, South America, Automation Systems business line, Valmet.

“Valmet is the pioneer and changemaker in the corrugated board industry, providing advanced quality management solutions that combine precise online measurements with cutting-edge control technologies to deliver unmatched quality and performance to our customers,” says Mikko Talonen, director, quality management solutions, Automation Systems business line, Valmet.

Delivery’s technical information

The delivery will include a Valmet IQ Warp Measurement System for two stackers, two Valmet IQ Single-Sided Scanners with IR Moisture Measurements, a Valmet IQ Scanner S with IR Moisture, and MW Total Moisture sensors. IQ Moisturizer with four spray beams will be utilized according to measurement systems for IQ Warp control and moisture CD profiling automatically after unwinders. The automation system also includes IQ Reporting for data collection.
