Stora Enso completes acquisition of Finnish sawmill Junnikkala

-

Stora Enso has successfully completed the acquisition of the Finnish sawmill company Junnikkala, which was first announced in October 2024. The integration of Junnikkala’s sawmills with Stora Enso’s packaging board site in Oulu, Finland, will ensure a cost-efficient wood supply for the site, where a new packaging board machine is currently ramping up production.

The total enterprise value of the transaction is up to EUR 137 million, with a significant portion contingent upon the achievement of specific production milestones. Once Junnikkala’s new sawmill in Oulu is fully operational, the acquisition is expected to generate annual synergies of approximately EUR 15 million.

The products from Junnikkala’s sawmills will complement Stora Enso’s existing wood products portfolio, further strengthening its position in the market. As a result of this acquisition, Stora Enso’s annual wood procurement in Finland will increase by approximately 1.7 million m³, and the Group’s overall sawmilling capacity will expand by 700,000 m³.

Stora Enso remains committed to its core belief that everything made from fossil-based materials today can be made from trees tomorrow. As the leading provider of renewable products in packaging, biomaterials, and wooden construction, and one of the largest private forest owners in the world, the company is focused on advancing sustainable solutions. In 2024, Stora Enso had approximately 19,000 employees and reported sales of EUR 9 billion. Stora Enso’s shares are listed on Nasdaq Helsinki and Nasdaq Stockholm, with additional trading in the USA OTC Markets.
