Orient showcases Make in India folder-gluer at Printpack India 2025

At Printpack India 2025, Orient’s Packaging and Converting Division introduced its Make in India folder-gluer machine. The company claims this machine is a game-changer for the carton-converting industry, offering versatility, cost-effectiveness, and an entirely indigenous manufacturing process.

Navdeep Attri, business head of the Packaging and Converting Division at Orient, provided insights into the new machine’s capabilities. “We are displaying India’s first Make in India folder-gluer machine, capable of converting a wide range of cartons, including four corners, six corners, corrugation, carton locks, bottom-side facing, disproportionate cartons, and double-wall cartons. With a speed of 500 meters per minute, it meets the demands of high-speed production with precision,” he explained.

When asked about the machine’s differentiation from imported folder-gluers, Attri emphasized two primary aspects: quality and cost-efficiency. “If you look at any imported brands, they offer similar functionalities, and we match them in terms of performance. However, what makes our machine unique is that it is completely designed and manufactured in India – no components are imported from China or anywhere else,” he said.

He further elaborated on the cost benefits: “With this machine, manufacturers can achieve the same level of precision and efficiency as with high-end imported machines but at half the CapEx. This makes it an economically viable option without compromising on quality.”

Addressing competition in the market, Attri acknowledged the presence of other Indian companies manufacturing folder-gluer machines but made an important distinction. “To date, no other Indian manufacturer has produced such a machine entirely within India without importing components from abroad. Our commitment to local production sets us apart. Attri also mentioned the machine’s international appeal and plans for global exports. “Since its debut at drupa last year, we have received positive feedback globally,” Attri said. “Currently, we are preparing to export the machine, and one unit is currently under production for international shipment.”

Current installations and market perception

Orient’s folder-gluer has already made its mark in India, with six installations completed across the country. However, Attri pointed out a long-standing challenge in the Indian market – the perception that only imported machines can handle complex carton converting tasks. “Historically, the Indian market favored imported machines for high-precision tasks. However, with advancements in our manufacturing capabilities and technology, we are reshaping these perceptions. Now, they are realizing that highly sophisticated folder-gluer can also be built in India, thanks to companies like Orient that have invested in advanced tooling and manufacturing capabilities,” he said.
