Cortec has announced an update to its Eco Wrap industrial compostable stretch film, introducing improvements in performance while maintaining its industrial compostability certification. The update was disclosed on 23 December 2025.
Eco Wrap was originally introduced as a patented, compostable alternative to conventional plastic stretch film used for industrial pallet wrapping. According to Cortec, the latest version features an improved resin formulation along with increased levels of a proprietary tackifier additive. These changes have resulted in higher cling and improved tear strength compared to the earlier version of the product.
The company stated that the updated Eco Wrap delivers approximately three times the cling and more than 1.5 times the tear strength of previous formulations. The improvements are intended to allow for more secure pallet wrapping and better performance on standard stretch-wrapping equipment, potentially reducing the number of film layers required.
Eco Wrap continues to be certified as industrially compostable by TÜV Austria and complies with the EN 13432 and ASTM D6400 standards. Cortec clarified that the product is designed for disposal in commercial or industrial composting facilities and is not intended for home or backyard composting.
The updated stretch film is currently available in widths from 18-32 inches (45.7-81.3 cm) in full pallet quantities as a custom-ordered product. Cortec indicated that broader availability may be introduced in the coming months.
Eco Wrap is manufactured using certified compostable resin and is designed to run on most existing stretch wrap machines with minor adjustments to tension settings. The product is positioned for industrial users seeking alternatives to conventional plastic stretch film while maintaining required packaging performance.
