Südpack introduces CarbonLite brand for sustainable tubular pouch films

-

Südpack has consolidated its high-performance tubular pouch films from the premium Pure-Line range into a dedicated product family under the CarbonLite brand. Based on PP and PE mono-materials, these films can be processed on both horizontal and vertical flow pack machines into flowpacks, doypacks (with or without spouts), and block-bottom pouches. Their recyclability and efficient use of materials help reduce the carbon footprint compared to conventional multi-material laminates or heavier tray packaging, while also offering benefits such as lower disposal costs.

The next-generation top webs are suitable for MAP applications and designed with sustainability in mind. A CarbonLite PurePP flowpack uses up to 60% less material than a conventional tray, with recyclability rates of up to 92%, verified by external institutes. For horizontal PE-based flow packs, material usage has been reduced by an additional 10% without affecting barrier properties. Südpack’s approach also supports shorter time-to-market, aided by its co-extrusion expertise, comprehensive service, and in-house application center.

CarbonLite films are suitable for a range of food products. PE flowpacks are used for cheese, baguettes, mozzarella, and coffee, while PP flowpacks are suited to ground meat and convenience items. Stand-up PE doypacks work for grated cheese and salami sticks, and PP doypacks for confectionery, dried fruit, nuts, and other snacks. Coffee applications can also use stable PP or PE block-bottom pouches and PP spouted pouches for fruit purées. All films feature barrier properties tailored to each product to ensure shelf life, with optional anti-fog features for better visibility.

The films are designed for efficient processing on standard packaging machines and maintain strong sealing performance even at high speeds, including when incorporating zippers, spouts, or valves made from the same mono-material.

Südpack also focuses on sustainability in printing with its SPQ technology, which reduces ink and solvent consumption while improving color quality. The company, committed to the SBTi and achieving Platinum status in the EcoVadis ranking in 2025, offers an advanced LCA service to assess the environmental balance of its products and customer packaging solutions.
