Siegwerk launches HorizonNOW 2030

-

Siegwerk, one of the leading global providers of printing inks and coatings for packaging applications and labels, has launched HorizonNOW 2030, the next phase of its sustainable business agenda. Building on the HorizonNOW strategy introduced in 2021, the updated agenda defines new ambitious and measurable goals to be achieved by 2030, reinforcing sustainability as a key pillar of Siegwerk’s overall business strategy.

With Formula 2030, the company recently unveiled its updated strategic agenda for the next five years, which aims, among other things, to further integrate responsible practices throughout the value chain. As part of this, HorizonNOW 2030 systematically embeds sustainability in the areas of procurement, operations and product innovation.

“Sustainability is an integral part of how we create value, which reinforces the competitiveness of our customers and partners,” said Nicolas Wiedmann, CEO at Siegwerk. “HorizonNOW 2030 now connects every step of our business to a sustainable packaging future and supports our ambition to grow responsibly while enabling holistic sustainable packaging innovation. And being awarded the EcoVadis Gold Medal and the EcoVadis Sustainability Achievement Award for the ‘Best New Program’ once again shows that we are on the right track with our efforts.”

Focus areas and goals

Siegwerk’s HorizonNOW 2030 agenda centers on driving sustainability across its entire value chain. The agenda is structured around three key areas and eight measurable goals to be achieved by 2030:

Under sustainable procurement, the targets include reducing high-risk suppliers by 95% (2024 baseline) and reducing scope 3 emissions by 25% (2020 baseline). Under sustainable operations, the company aims to reduce scope 1 and 2 emissions by 60% (2020 baseline), reduce waste by 10% relative to produced volumes (2024 baseline), achieve a Total Incident Rate (TIR) below 1.0, and increase female representation in leadership roles to 30%.

Under sustainable products, the goals include ensuring 65% of products sold enable circular packaging (by volume) and establishing a data-backed sustainable product assessment covering circularity, carbon footprint and product safety.

“HorizonNOW 2030 translates our sustainability ambition into clear priorities and measurable impact,” said Alina Marm, head of global sustainability at Siegwerk. “By sourcing responsibly, producing sustainably and developing products that enable circularity, we actively support our customers in making truly sustainable packaging a reality.”

Sustainability as a long-term responsibility

“Our sustainability journey goes beyond targets – it’s about creating positive impact for our people, our partners and our planet,” said Marm. “HorizonNOW 2030 connects our ambitions to action and thus helps guide every part of our business toward a future-fit, circular packaging ecosystem.”
