Schreiner MediPharm and Herma showcase RFID labeling for vials at interpack 2026

-

Schreiner MediPharm and Herma showcased an integrated RFID labeling solution for pharmaceutical vials at interpack 2026 in Düsseldorf, combining what the companies describe as particularly robust RFID labels with precision labeling technology designed to maintain process stability in high-speed applications.

RFID and NFC technologies are gaining traction in the pharmaceutical industry for applications including automated medication management, traceability, tamper evidence, and process digitalization. Both companies said the solution was developed in response to demands around the mechanical resilience of integrated chips, protection against chip breakage, and precision in the labeling process.

Schreiner MediPharm’s Robust RFID labels feature a construction said to shield the integrated RFID chip from mechanical stress and impact, according to the company. The labels are designed for containers with narrow radii such as vials and syringes, and the company states that RFID functionality is maintained from production through to final use.

Combined with Herma’s labeling technology, which the company says is optimized for material protection, the integrated system is said to enable reliable RFID integration even in challenging, high-cycle-rate applications. Tests conducted on Herma’s 132M HC wrap-around labeling machine – developed for the pharmaceutical industry – showed the chip breakage rate tending toward zero, compared with higher failure rates observed with conventional standard labels.

The solution was demonstrated live during interpack, which ran from May 7 to 13. Herma presented the system as part of the joint Packaging Valley exhibit, where Schreiner MediPharm’s Robust RFID labels were applied to vials under conditions intended to reflect real production environments.
