Mondi makes strategic investments to fulfill soaring eCommerce demands

Mondi offers a comprehensive range of eCommerce solutions, including its MailerBAGs, through its corrugated and flexible packaging businesses

Mondi, a leading global company specializing in sustainable packaging and paper, has announced an investment of more than €16 million in its Krapkowice plant in Poland. This decision comes in response to the growing demand for sustainable packaging in the eCommerce industry.

Mondi’s MailerBAGs offer customers a cost-effective solution for transportation due to their durability, lightweight nature, and resistance to punctures and tears. They effectively save space and reduce weight. With various size options available, these bags are convenient for delivery and return purposes, as they are easy to open and close. Moreover, their excellent printability allows brands to effectively convey their key messages to consumers.

The Krapkowice plant, dedicated exclusively to the production of Mondi’s MailerBAGs, is strategically located in Poland, allowing it to serve customers throughout Europe. This investment will more than double the plant’s MailerBAG production capacity for 2023 and will involve the establishment of a new production line.

Mondi offers a comprehensive range of eCommerce solutions, including its MailerBAGs, through its corrugated and flexible packaging businesses. The MailerBAGs are manufactured using responsibly sourced fibers from Mondi’s own kraft paper, which is produced and converted in-house. This integration within the company’s value chain is a significant advantage. Furthermore, the bags are designed to be recycled through standard paper recycling processes across Europe, making them an excellent alternative to plastic mailers.

Thierry De-Vleminck, MailerBAG director, Mondi Paper Bags, says, “Consumers are becoming more concerned about packaging materials, with research showing around 70% willing to pay more for best-fit packaging. The growing eCommerce market needs a strong supply of quality packaging that has a real focus on sustainability, which is what we deliver, a bespoke solution for every customer, every time.”

Bogdan Rozio, regional manager Central and Eastern Europe and managing director Poland, Mondi Paper Bags, adds, “We’re delighted to be investing further in the eCommerce industry and in our Krapkowice plant. It contributes to our MAP2030 commitment to make all our packaging solutions reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025, and allows us to respond to the market demand in this key region.”
