Noida-based Lynx Designer and Creators has invested in the Kongsberg X20 cutting machine to boost production, ensure consistent quality and to expand its range of offerings to include bespoke packaging.

In a deal celebrated at the recent Pamex event in Mumbai, Lynx has acquired a new Kongsberg X20 cutting table fitted with tooling options specifically chosen to help provide a consistent finish and quality to its badge and patch production and to help meet their growing short-run demands.

“For more than 25 years we have produced unique labeling solutions like patches, hang tags and woven labels that enhance brand identity across a range of industries including clothing, cosmetics, medical and FMCG,” said Lynx founder and managing director, Rajeev Kalra. “We have moved towards improved, innovative production methods to make branding more sustainable and reduce the harmful impact on the environment. Being an existing Kongsberg user, when we were looking to both improve efficiency in our production as well as move into the packaging space, we knew we could be confident in the quality and precision of Kongsberg cutting solutions.”

Kalra explained that in order to deal with the changing demands of the market in India, Lynx is both boosting productivity and diversifying its portfolio to make the business a one-stop solution for all its customers’ tags and packaging needs. “We looked at a number of machines but they could not meet the finish quality, accuracy and productivity that we required for our kind of application,” he said. “The tags market uses many different types and thicknesses of material, and we found that other machines just could not achieve the consistent quality and accuracy that the Kongsberg could handle.

“The Kongsberg X20 gives us the speed and versatility not only to manage the increasing number of short run orders we receive, but also cope with larger packaging jobs at the same time,” he said. “With the Multi-Purpose High Frequency Knife tool and Bevel tools, we can now finish a range of materials such as corrugated, foam and Kappa board, while the specialist Psaligraphy knife tool means we can produce laser-like fine finishes.”

The Multi-Purpose High-Frequency Knife is a high-frequency reciprocating tool developed for cutting a huge variety of different materials. Running at a frequency of 12,000 strokes per minute and at a reduced cutting speed, its powerful motor enables the cutting of heavily recycled board at an efficient speed. The Psaligraphy knife tool is specifically developed for fine details in thin materials like paper and folding cartons, which it achieves using a spring-loaded floating plastic foot in combination with specially designed knife blades.

“The new generation Kongsberg X offers Lynx the versatility, accuracy, and upgradability they were looking for,” said Rafiq Shaikh, sales and service leader for Kongsberg PCS. “The selected tools are also versatile, with each tool able to accurately cut multiple substrates. Fewer tool changes deliver efficiency gains and savings on job preparation time, while the machine produces die-like finish samples, helping to accelerate sales approval and further boost productivity.”
