Fortress launches ultra-hygienic pump metal detector for meat processors at interpack 2023

A single piece of ultra-hygienic removable Delrin tube on the Meat Pump eliminates crevices that may harbour bacteria

Returning to interpack 2023, food safety inspection specialist Fortress Technology will unveil how its ultra-hygienic in-line Meat Pump Pipeline Metal Detector attaches to clippers and stuffers on sausage, pork, beef and poultry processing lines.

With meat processing compliance demanding the highest levels of sanitation, the new Fortress Meat Pump Pipeline Metal Detector features an ultra-hygienic, food-safe Delrin removable plastic tube. Constructed with no metal ends, it is completely clear of crevices that could hide bacteria. Also included are customized Delrin wrenches stored on the machine to loosen and tighten threads without damaging the pipe.

IP69K-rated and internationally compliant to meet EU and Germany’s Federal Health & Food Safety (BVL) requirements, the slimline machine is fitted to a mobile frame for fast attachment to meat stuffers and clippers. The machine also has a unique rail-mounted reject valve design for fast removal of the pipe for cleaning and reassembly.

Designed specifically for sausage and red meat and poultry burger applications, the reduced system length requires less space between meat processing machinery, including stuffers and clippers, than traditional pipeline metal detectors.

Its mobile frame is easy to roll out. A Clean in Place mode is also available. In less than three minutes, meat processing staff can blast high-pressure water jets through the system, eliminating bacteria and product residue to prevent cross-contamination in industrial meat processing environments.

Not being fixed to ceilings or frames enables easy reconfiguration on upstream processing lines. Being a balanced system mitigates the risk of the machine tipping over when being maneuvered around. To accommodate facilities with sloped floors, adjustable casters allow the pipe angles to be easily corrected.

For workforce safety, an extension pipe on the reject output helps to prevent injury during sanitation and maintenance. Featuring ergonomic electric powered height adjustment controlled via the HMI, the unit, which is three feet in height and length also includes an automatic air dump when the valve is disassembled, as well as a visible stop pushbutton to halt production.

To save waste and labor, there are two performance testing options. Halo automatically runs performance verification tests, challenging the center of the pipeline metal detector aperture without the mess of inserting and retrieving test balls. The other optional manual testing process comprises a test ball insertion and retrieval kit to prevent contaminating meat products with the test samples.

Sophisticated data capture and Contact Reporter Software document the numerical value of signal strength for each reject event and replace paper records documenting performance verifications. Satisfying the most stringent GFSI/SQF, BRC and HACCP meat, poultry and food processing Quality Assurance codes of practice.

The Fortress Meat Pump Pipeline can also be used to inspect pates, broths, gravies and sauces, as well as soft viscous pet foods.
