Cortec introduces certified industrially compostable VCI paper

-

Cortec Corporation has unveiled an addition to its lineup with the launch of EcoBio VpCI-146 Paper, touted as the world’s first certified industrially compostable VCI (vapor corrosion inhibitor) paper for protective metal packaging. This innovation marks a step forward in Cortec’s commitment to sustainable leadership, addressing global challenges in corrosion protection with eco-friendly solutions.

EcoBio VpCI-146 Paper provides dual-sided corrosion protection, designed for wrapping and interleaving both ferrous and non-ferrous metal parts. It releases vapor corrosion inhibitors that form a protective layer on metal surfaces, ensuring preserved integrity until the package is opened. Once exposed, these inhibitors dissipate harmlessly, facilitating immediate use of the metal parts.

Certified by TÜV Austria under the EN 13432 standard for industrial composting, EcoBio VpCI-146 Paper undergoes rigorous evaluation to ensure it meets stringent eco-toxicity requirements. Testing confirmed its ability to disintegrate and transform into compost within approximately six weeks, aligning with composting standards. Soybeans and corn seedlings grown with compost from EcoBio VpCI-146 Paper demonstrated results comparable to those grown using conventional compost, affirming its environmental safety.

With 92% USDA certified biobased content, EcoBio VpCI-146 Paper exemplifies sustainability throughout its lifecycle – from sourcing through to disposal. This makes it an ideal choice for companies pursuing green initiatives voluntarily or mandated by regulatory requirements to reduce plastic use. It particularly appeals to assembly plants seeking to enhance their compost-to-landfill waste ratio, offering a viable alternative to traditional packaging materials.

Cortec’s introduction of EcoBio VpCI-146 Paper underscores its leadership in developing environmentally-conscious corrosion solutions, catering to the evolving needs of industries committed to sustainable practices.
