Bhutan Agro Industries (BAIL), a company that processes fruit and vegetables in Bhutan, has changed the packaging for its fruit juice products from previous formats to aluminum cans.
The switch involves replacing the prior packaging with aluminum cans that are lighter than tinplate and more resistant to damage.
BAIL chief executive officer Sherab Namgay said, “The transition to aluminum cans brings the product’s packaging and design in line with global expectations.”
BAIL stated that the use of aluminum cans is intended to enhance the product’s physical protection and overall packaging experience for consumers.
The company also said that the new aluminum can packaging aligns with broader industry trends toward packaging formats that are widely used internationally.
Alongside the packaging change, BAIL is increasing its export activity. It continues to supply Bangladesh and India, including Siliguri and Guwahati, and has entered the Bodhgaya market. The company said it is sending a shipment to Australia, and that it is also preparing to enter Thailand.
The company said the exports are focused on beverages with fewer chemicals and preservatives and lower sugar content, with this approach supporting Bhutan’s image overseas. However, BAIL’s juice formulation has not changed. It continues to use fruit purchased from local farmers, processed at its facility in Lingmethang, Monggar.
