Syntegon unveils innovative packaging solutions at PackEx India

Nilesh Vedak, managing director of Syntegon Technology India

At PackEx India, taking place from 28 to 30 August, Syntegon will present systems for the packaging of bakery products and low-density snacks (LDS) – from distribution to primary packaging. Two solutions are displayed for the first time at an Indian trade show – with the SVL 2310 Twin, Syntegon highlights its expertise in the vertical bagging of potato chips, while the Pack 301 LS with Smart Duplex Measuring Loader (SDML) ensures horizontal flow wrapping of biscuits, sandwich-style biscuits, cookies, and crackers. The Pack 201 HS horizontal flow wrapper also on show further includes the company’s paper-ON-form retrofit kit, allowing manufacturers to process paper-based and film packaging seamlessly on one system.

For packaging fragile, low-density snacks, the SVL 2310 Twin with a multi-head weigher is a useful option. Introduced by Syntegon in late 2023, this solution supports efficient and careful handling. Its compact design helps to minimize drop heights. “This way, delicate products like potato chips remain intact during packaging for unadulterated enjoyment,” explains Nilesh Vedak, managing director of Syntegon Technology India.

The SVL 2310 can handle up to 105 packages per minute. Its sealing system allows it to seal PET, metalized PET, and BOPP on a single platform, reducing the need for frequent changeovers. As a twin version of the SVL 2310, it has a smaller footprint, enabling the operation of multiple machines in the same space. Additionally, it requires only one operator, helping snack manufacturers optimize their use of personnel.

High-output flow wrapping

Gentle handling is important for packaging biscuits on edge (BOE). The Pack 301 LS from Syntegon is well-suited for this task. It features the Smart Duplex Measuring Loader (SDML), which allows for dropping two slugs at a time and ensures they reach the packaging area without breakage. “We aim to provide solutions that maintain high biscuit quality,” says Vedak. The Pack 301 LS can flow-wrap up to 250 packs per minute of various biscuit shapes on edge.

Paper packaging on the rise

Regulations, consumer preferences, and market standards are driving food manufacturers in India to adopt more sustainable packaging strategies. To reduce environmental impact, paper-based packaging materials are becoming more popular. Syntegon addresses this need with the “paper-ON-form” forming shoulder for horizontal flow wrappers. This solution allows for processing paper materials on existing systems without damaging them, ensuring tight seals similar to those achieved with regular film.“Our retrofit kit supports time-efficient changeovers between different packaging materials, paving the companies’ way to seamless processes all along,” says Vedak.
