Sabert’s Pulp Ultra wins 2025 US Plastics Pact award for compostability

-

Sabert’s Pulp Ultra molded fiber pulp formulation has won the 2025 US Plastic Pact Sustainable Packaging Innovation Award for compostability. The award recognizes BPI-certified Pulp Ultra as a breakthrough molded fiber pulp solution, raising the bar for packaging solutions that are helping to drive a more circular future for packaging.

“When we developed Pulp Ultra, we set out to create a purpose-built solution to tackle the toughest food-service challenges,” said Robert Beagan, director, product management at Sabert Corporation. “Our centers for innovation team combined material science, engineering, and sustainability to develop a proprietary formulation that meets the performance criteria for a variety of food applications, such as takeout and delivery, frozen and refrigerated meals, and grab-n’-go meals. This recognition reinforces our continued commitment to packaging a better tomorrow through innovation that works for our customers, consumers, and the planet.”

According to Sabert, Pulp Ultra offers a range of functional and sustainability-driven attributes designed for demanding food-service applications. The molded fiber pulp formulation delivers best-in-class resistance to oil and grease, allowing it to withstand direct contact with hot foods containing oil or grease at temperatures up to 185°F. The material is also designed for extended use in both refrigerated and frozen environments, helping maintain package integrity during long-term cold storage

In addition, Pulp Ultra supports safe and convenient reheating, as it is compatible with microwave and oven use, as well as air fryers and rapid cook ovens. Manufactured at Sabert’s domestic facility in Greenville, Texas, the product meets FDA food safety requirements and is supported by third-party certifications verifying compliance with standards for compostability, re-pulping, recycling, and safe chemistry – aligning the product with circular economy objectives.
