Parkside unveils compostable pack for Datekin Sukkari dates

-

Parkside has partnered with premium snack producer Lama to develop a certified home compostable flexible pack for Datekin Sukkari dates. The packaging is designed to break down within 26 weeks in home compost and 12 weeks in industrial composting facilities, offering a more sustainable option for Datekin’s 60 g portions of Sukkari dates. The cradle-to-cradle packaging design synergizes with Lama’s sustainability messaging, complementing the all-natural dates with a pack that breaks down into natural materials.

Staci Bye, sales account manager at Parkside said, “Consumers increasingly expect brands to back up what they say when it comes to sustainability messaging. Packaging is the perfect medium to demonstrate those sustainable principles in a way that consumers can easily engage with, and a compostable pack is the ideal complement for a natural, healthy snack product like dates.

“I want to thank the team at Lama for their collaboration on this project, and for trusting us to deliver a solution that represents their commitment to sustainability and transparency. This project proves that high barrier, high performance compostable packaging is a great way to reduce waste for individually-packaged snacking applications.”

The pack is made using Parkside’s Park2Nature material, which is made using layers of cellulose-based material augmented with water-based barrier coatings. This ensures that, during composting, it degrades into nothing more than water, carbon dioxide, and biomass.

Liam Allen, head of eCommerce and branding at Lama, added, “Sustainable packaging is no longer just an option—it’s a responsibility. Consumers are demanding eco-friendly solutions, and we are proud to meet that demand with innovative, recyclable, and compostable packaging that reduces environmental impact without compromising quality or convenience

“The team at Parkside went the extra mile to deliver on all of our requirements, quickly moving from concept to production without any compromise on quality. At Lama, we always prioritise speed, care, and transparency in operations, so it was great to work with a packaging partner who has the same ethos.”
