Mercadona has reached an agreement to acquire Logifruit, a specialist supplier focused on reusable packaging management, with the aim of bringing together all its logistics processes and further strengthening the efficiency and sustainability of its distribution network. The agreement, which is subject to approval by the competition authorities and standard administrative authorizations for this type of transaction, will enable Mercadona to achieve significant synergies and further optimize its resources. This, in turn, will help enhance its assembly line and support the continued development of a responsible logistics strategy aligned with the principles of the circular economy, the company said.
As part of this transaction, the 1,600 people who make up the Logifruit workforce will become part of the Mercadona team.
David Cid, Mercadona’s managing director of Logistics, thanked Pedro Ballester, president of Logifruit, for the successful implementation of the project and welcomed the decision to integrate Logifruit within the company’s structure in order to continue driving efficiency, innovation and sustainability across its logistics processes.
Pedro Ballester, president of Logifruit, said, “When we began working with Mercadona in 1996, we took on the challenge of providing a service tailored to its needs and capable of delivering competitive advantages. Three decades later, I am proud to say that Logifruit has met those challenges, achieving a level of specialisation and efficiency we could never have imagined and that now, through this strategic integration, will continue to be consolidated and add value to Mercadona and its suppliers.”
