Nalagarh-based packaging and label converter Leo Designs & Packaging recently invested in Gallus ECS 340, a 9-color flexo press to offload the order pressure on its existing three narrow-web flexo presses. The newly installed Gallus ECS is equipped with a screen printing and cold-foiling units. The company caters to several industries including cosmetics, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, and electronics.

Vivek Rao of Leo Design & Packaging, said, “With increased capacities we are able to give better client satisfaction. Our clients, their positive growth trajectory and personal bonds we share with them prompted us to purchase the Gallus. In addition, team Gallus came across very professionally in the entire exercise.”

Rao, a lawyer, started Leo Designs & Packaging in 2008 along with his brother Varun Rao, an MBA working with PricewaterhouseCoopers. Rao is responsible for the production and Varun Rao heads sales and finance. More than 200 people work in two shifts in the 4-acre plant of Leo Packaging.

About entering the packaging industry, Rao said, “Packaging seemed to be the right industry as it caters to a motley of industries. We started with a single offset machine in 2008. However, today we have expanded to one of biggest packaging house in North India with five offset lines, shipper carton setup, four flexo machines and recent expansion to state-of-the-art lamitube business.

Varun Rao added, “The idea was always to provide a single-point offering to our clients, and we continue to strive to work in that direction. Of course managing multiple verticals has its set of challenges, but therein lie the opportunities also. Our resolute remains client servicing and satisfaction.”

Leo’s production shopfloor is equipped with multiple Heidelberg printing presses, narrow-web flexo printing presses from Nilpeter and Mark Andy, plus solvent-free thermal CTP from Kodak, Packsys Global lamitube machine, fully automatic inspection systems and an ERP system from a UK-based developer.
