At Pamex 2024, Kongsberg showcased its entry-level digital cutting and finishing table with a smaller footprint X20. This machine caters to customers primarily from the folding carton and corrugation industry, offering a plethora of applications for diverse needs.

Muhammad Rafiq Shaikh, sales and service leader at Kongsberg, said, “The X20 machine is incredibly versatile. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not just a cutting tool; it excels as both a cutting and finishing solution. I must commend the machine for its precision, consistency, and repeatability. It guarantees identical results across multiple samples, something that many companies find challenging to achieve.”

Reflecting on market trends, Shaikh noted a significant shift post-COVID. He observed a rising demand for short-run jobs, driven by the emergence of young entrepreneurs and the expansion of franchises. These entities often require small quantities of customized packaging to brand their products effectively. Shaikh predicted that digital technology would dominate the industry, enabling instantaneous box production without the need for dies – a game-changer for short-run products.

Despite lingering challenges such as inflation, Shaikh expressed optimism about the printing and packaging sector in the upcoming year. Anticipating a positive trajectory, he cited the upcoming drupa event and the influence of elections, which typically spike the demand for packaging printing.

From a broader perspective, Shaikh highlighted the evolving nature of the packaging market. Changing consumer behaviors, particularly the shift towards online shopping, necessitate a recalibration of traditional approaches. He emphasized the importance of embracing a short-run mindset, viewing it not merely as a process but as an essential mindset for adaptation and future readiness. Shaikh warned that failure to align with evolving dynamics could pose significant challenges in the competitive landscape.
