Gallus announces leadership transition

L to R: Uwe Boerner and Michael Bsirske

Gallus Group, a subsidiary of Heidelberg, and a global leader in label printing technology, has announced a planned evolution of its leadership team to support the company’s next phase of growth, innovation and customer partnership. Effective 1 November 2026, Dario Urbinati will transition from his role as CEO of Gallus Group and join the Board of Directors of Gallus Ferd. Rüesch AG, before assuming the role of President of the Board on 1 January 2027. Michael Bsirske, current Gallus Group Chief Financial Officer and key member of the Gallus leadership team, will serve as interim CEO of Gallus Group.

In addition, effective 1 October 2026, Uwe Boerner will become head of global sales, while retaining his existing responsibility for Key Accounts, succeeding Thomas Schweizer, who is pursuing a new opportunity outside the company.

The leadership transition comes at a time of strong momentum for Gallus, driven by the successful expansion of its digital portfolio, including milestone innovations such as the Gallus One and Gallus Five, continued growth across its established product portfolio, and the ongoing success of the Gallus Experience Center. In addition, Gallus is continuing to expand its presence in growth regions such as India. Building on its System to Compose approach, Gallus continues to help converters create more flexible, profitable and future-ready production environments through connected printing technologies and its expanding digital ecosystem. The transition ensures continuity in the company’s strategic direction, with a continued focus on customer partnership, technological leadership and long-term value creation.

“The transformation journey Gallus has undertaken over recent years has been incredibly successful, and I am extremely proud of what the entire team has achieved together,” comments Dario Urbinati. “Gallus is today recognized as one of the key players driving digital transformation within our industry, with a clear strategy, strong momentum and a highly engaged global customer base. In my new Board role, I will remain closely connected to Gallus. Having helped guide the business through a successful period of transformation and growth, I felt it was the right time to step back from day-to-day operational responsibilities while continuing to support Gallus in long-term strategy, innovation and key customer relationships.”

Michael Bsirske is a highly experienced international executive with extensive leadership and financial expertise gained through senior management roles within Gallus, Heidelberg and across technology, industrial and professional services businesses. “My priority will be to ensure that Gallus continues delivering success for our customers,” says Michael Bsirske. “That means staying close to the market, listening carefully to what converters need, and working closely with our customers, partners and suppliers to deliver solutions that make a real difference to their businesses. As the labels market continues to evolve, converters increasingly require production environments that are more connected, flexible and efficient. We have tremendous expertise across Gallus and Heidelberg, and I look forward to drawing on that expertise as we maintain our focus on customer value, innovation and execution.”

Dr. David Schmedding, chief technology & sales officer at Heidelberg, says, “Dario and the Gallus leadership team have successfully guided Gallus through a period of transformation and growth, and we are very pleased that Dario will continue to support the business as part of the Board. We have the right people to lead this next phase of the business and build on the strong foundations already established, supporting continued innovation, operational excellence and long-term customer success.”

Ferdinand Rüesch adds, “Over many years, Gallus has evolved through the strength of its people and a willingness to embrace change. Dario has played a most important role in shaping the Gallus strategy and business we see today. I am pleased that through his new role, his extensive experience and comprehensive perspective of our industry will remain available to Gallus going forward. I would also like to recognize Thomas Schweizer for his contribution to the business and wish him every success for the future.”

Gallus emphasized that the company’s long-term strategy, customer focus and commitment to innovation remain unchanged, with the leadership evolution designed to further strengthen the company’s ability to support converters transitioning towards a more automated, digitally enabled and profitable production environment, and a successful print future.
