DuPont celebrates 50 years of Cyrel flexographic solutions success at drupa 2024

At drupa 2024, the DuPont Cyrel Flexographic Solutions team will celebrate 50 years of delivering innovation to the global flexographic printing industry by showcasing its next-generation portfolio of solutions that meet today’s packaging and printing trends.

“The drupa 2024 show will be a superb platform for us to demonstrate our commitment to the industry and celebrate the Cyrel legacy with our customers and partners. To our team, customer support and partnership means delivering on all fronts – product and service innovation, sustainability, quality, and performance. We are excited to present so many promising technologies at this expo to keep perfecting flexo together with our customers,” said Tucker Norton, global business director, DuPont Printing & Packaging.

This year’s expo will have a focus on sustainability – a key driver for the global print market – as well as solutions that enable tradeshops and printers to deliver new levels of speed, quality, and performance. “Sustainability is always top-of-mind when our new innovations are launched. As we publish our 2024 Sustainability Report, we are delighted to share that 100% renewable electricity is used at the entire Cyrel plate manufacturing sites. This reflects our commitment to reduce our carbon footprint by 50% by 2030 and achieve Carbon Neutral operations by 2050, in line with the DuPont Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTI),” said Norton.

Advancing the sustainability trend, first on the list of announcements of the company at drupa 2024 is the new Cyrel FAST 1000 TD thermal processing platemaking equipment. Designed to serve customers in the tag & label and mid-web flexible packaging segment with plate sizes up to 900 x 1200 mm (35.4 x 47.2 inches) and suitable for operations with space constraints, the new design incorporates advanced features from the popular 2000 TD and 3000 TD machines. These include fast processing, a smaller environmental footprint, lower cost, and ease of use for operators, along with high-quality print performance on a wide range of substrates.

Other Cyrel launches include two new plates – Cyrel Easy Fast EFM and Cyrel Lightning LSE.

As brands seek to replace their use of plastics with paper packaging, the Cyrel team will also showcase a new member of the EASY plate family of flat-top dot plates for the thermal Cyrel Fast platform – Cyrel Easy Fast EFM. With medium hardness and an optimized formulation for printing on a wide variety of paper substrates, this new plate achieves excellent ink transfer on coated, uncoated, rough, and recycled papers while maintaining strong print performance on film. Cyrel Easy Fast EFM features built-in flat-top dot technology which delivers wide printing latitude. It has a smooth surface, ideally suited for the micro-screening of solids, which results in exceptionally high ink transfer and low dot gain.

Extending the award-winning Lightning range of photopolymer plate technologies, the Cyrel Lightning LSE plate will be promoted for the first time. This new solvent-processible plate is designed for high-intensity UV LED exposure devices and features an engineered surface, enabling flexible packaging printers to achieve exceptional print consistency.

The drupa 2024 visitors will also see DuPont launch its new on-demand video training program, Cyrel University, designed to help customers dramatically reduce preventable errors, quickly get new hires up to speed and keep top plate room and press room talent on the cutting edge. This will also provide operators with the ability to become ‘Cyrel Certified’, distinguishing them from their peers.

The new Cyrel University program will initially feature four on-demand interactive video courses that consist of more than 12 hours of comprehensive instruction offered in six languages to start – English, German, Mandarin, French, Spanish and Portuguese – with more languages planned in the coming months.

“At nearly every industry event, we hear our customers repeatedly highlight a big challenge: employees making costly, preventable mistakes with their plates in the press room or plate room. A single ‘bad plate’ can certainly be costly: at best it can cause hours of press downtime and overtime to meet a tight deadline to remake it and re-run a job. At worst it can lead to a customer losing a key account due to missing a deadline or delivering a print that does not meet a client’s quality expectations. We recognize that we need to support our customers with new levels of service and training to complement our outstanding plate and equipment innovations,” said Kirk Kraines, regional marketing manager for the Western Hemisphere, Cyrel Flexographic Solutions.

“As the world’s leading trade fair for the printing industry, drupa 2024 provides an excellent platform for our team to demonstrate how we continue to move forward in the flexographic print industry,” said Christian Apenberg, tradeshow leader and marketing manager for the Eastern Hemisphere, Cyrel Flexographic Solutions. We welcome our many partners, customers, and friends to our booth,” concluded Christian.

DuPont will be in Hall 8B on Stand B13 at drupa 2024, Messe Düsseldorf, Germany from 28 May to 7 June 2024.
