At Labelexpo India 2024, Cosmo Films showcased its innovative range of label films while emphasizing its sustainability initiatives and market presence. Speaking with The Packman, Aditya Vikram Singh of Cosmo Films, shared insights into the company’s objectives, market trends, challenges, and the evolving landscape of the labeling industry.

“We have participated in Labelexpo India to mark our presence and showcase new products, some of which will launch in the next three to six months,” Singh said. He highlighted the event as a strategic platform to connect with customers, label converters, and machine manufacturers. “Cosmo Films products, from IML to wrap-around labels, are prominently running on machines across the exhibition,” he added, highlighting the brand’s extensive industry reach.

Growth in flexible labels and India’s geopolitical advantage

Discussing the evolution of flexible labels, Singh pointed to a notable post-COVID shift from paper to film labels. “Filmic labels offer better environmental resistance and aesthetic appeal, critical for product presentation,” he said.

Singh also noted that India is emerging as a significant supplier in the global market, driven by geopolitical conditions. “With China’s market facing resistance due to political issues, India is well-positioned to capture global demand,” he said.

Trends in the labeling industry – the digital shift

On industry trends, Singh observed a strong shift towards digital printing. “Short-run jobs are becoming more common as new entrepreneurs enter the business. Digital printing provides quick turnaround times and flexibility, which align with these market demands,” he explained. Singh highlighted the growing presence of digital printing solutions at Labelexpo as a testament to this trend.

Versatile products for evolving needs

Cosmo Films has developed a robust portfolio to cater to diverse printing technologies. “Our products are compatible with all major printing methods, including flexo, offset, digital UV inkjet, and TTR printing,” Singh said. He emphasized that the company tailors its offerings to align with specific printing technologies for better service delivery.

Singh acknowledged market challenges, particularly in balancing supply and demand. “The influx of players in the raw material sector has created supply-demand imbalances, which will take time to stabilize,” he said.

Driving sustainability through innovation

Sustainability remains a core focus for Cosmo Films. “We are reengineering our products to make them more sustainable,” Singh explained. He shared examples of integrating recyclable features, such as using mono-material labels for PET bottles to enhance recyclability.
