Canon enters digital label printing market

-

[dropcaps style=’2′]Canon has entered the digital label printing market with the launch of the Océ LabelStream 4000. The 5-color (White + CMYK) UV inkjet press, designed to be modular, and available as pure digital standalone press, digital press with inline finishing, or as a full hybrid configuration including flexo units, was unveiled on 5 June 2018 at the Canon Océ Customer Experience Center in Poing, near Munich.[/dropcaps]

The new roll-to-roll industrial-scale UV inkjet press has been developed in cooperation with two British firms: inkjet integrator FFEI and label press specialist Edale, and also uses UK-developed Xaar 2001 drop-on-demand piezo inkjet heads. The LabelStream 4000 comes in two widths, 330 mm and 410 mm, with standard speed 48 m/min or 68 m/min. Resolution is 720 x 600dpi with three grey levels. The press has options for addition of a variety of value-adds, such as lamination, cold foil, delam/relam, turnbar and flexo color units, both before and after the inkjet engine.

Canon is positioning the new press in between sub 50 m/min inkjet and toner presses, and the faster conventional label lines. The press is targeted at self-adhesive labels and some flexible packaging applications, for markets including beauty and personal care, industrial, pharma, beer and spirits, and household.

The new press will become commercially available at the end of this year in Europe with plans to enter the US market after that.
