Yansefu has introduced a high-performance bio-based anti-blocking additive, Sarjoadd-ABA, to be incorporated with printing inks and coatings to provide outstanding characteristics including blocking resistance, abrasion resistance, adequate slip to the surface, water repellence, improved texture, and more. The high-performance additive, especially designed using natural raw materials, improves adhesion without affecting the bond strength of printing inks and coatings.

JK Sharma, CEO, Yansefu India provides some insight into the chemistry of waxes: “Amide waxes are extensively used as lubricants in the printing inks and coatings industry. These waxes are simple lipids consisting of fatty acids that react with amines and diamines. Waxes are generally used to enhance the slip property in inks and coatings, thereby reducing blocking and abrasion potential while beautifying the texture of the coatings.”

“Bio-based Sarjoadd-ABA possesses excellent blooming tendency – this means, when the applied coatings containing our anti-blocking additive is exposed to a temperature of nearly 40 to 45°C, the molten wax particles float or bloom to the surface. Those wax particles get recrystallized on the surface when the coating cools down, forming out a thin but continuous wax-enriched surface layer to impart the desired properties. Usually, lower the melting point, softer the wax and more predominant the blooming mechanism,” adds Sharma.

“The major advantage of the new anti-blocking additive is that it is composed of bio-based raw materials, making the material to be more eco-friendly. Another important characteristic of Sarjoadd-ABA is that it is versatile in nature, means the use of this wax is not limited to a certain resin system but is greatly compatible with almost all the resin systems available for printing inks formulation. This is a very unique and important feature of the product,” concluded Sharma.
