[dropcaps style=’2′]Mumbai-based Saptagiri Packaging inaugurated its new expanded plant in September 2017. Along with the new expanded plant, which has increased the plant area to 100,000 – which is more than double the earlier size, the company has also invested significantly in capacity building of  its pressroom and postpress divisions by commissioning a Heidelberg CD 102 6-color press plus UV coater and a Bobst Novacut 106 diecutter – both brand new state-of-the art machines which will increase the converting capacity of the company significantly. “With the new machines running, we are increasing our converting capacity to about 1,000 tonnes of paper board every month,” said Nikhil Warrier, executive director of Saptagiri Packaging.[/dropcaps]

Saptagiri specializes in mono-cartons, liner cartons, metallized cartons, blister backup cards, window cartons and E-flute cartons. The company caters to customers in the FMCG and agro-chemical industries which include companies like Procter & Gamble, Godrej Consumer Products, Colgate Palmolive, Eveready, Ankup Seeds and more. “Saptagiri is dedicated to investing in technology that results in true time savings, improved product quality, smoother processes and convenient access for our customers,” said Warrier.

“Being on the cutting edge involves staying on top of what’s next as well as what’s available now. And making sure new processes are proven and reliable. In the retail and corporate environment, it takes a tremendous time and financial investment to offer these highly specialized services, and to keep them running smoothly and adding value for our customers. But we just see it as part of our duty to give our customers the best anyone can possibly offer,” added Warrier.

While the Novacut 106 can handle maximum sheet size of 740 x 1,060 mm, the minimum sheet size it can handle is 350 x 400 mm at speeds up to 8,000 sheets per hour. It can process paper, carton board and corrugated board of thicknesses up to 80 gsm, 2,000 gsm and 4mm respectively.

The Speedmaster CD 102 can print on paper boards up to 1 mm thickness and comes with fast plate changing with AutoPlate. The contact-free sheet transport with the AirTransfer system and the high storage capacity of the inking system deliver high-quality print result. The UV coating unit of the Speedmaster CD 102 is fitted with a chambered blade system to meet the most exacting coating requirements and rigorous finishing standards. The CD 102 at Saptagiri is a 2017 edition from Heidelberg and equipped with sturdy grippers and bearings of the XL 106 press and deliver high print quality with speeds up to 15,000 sheets per hour on varied substrates.

With the the recent investment, Saptagiri is looking forward to leverage on the increasingly popular folding cartons segment. According to Warrier, an E-flute line is on the anvil and the company may invest in a corrugation machine with complete finishing setup.
