Association of Label Printers and Suppliers (ALPS) successfully conducted the first edition of its World of Labeling (WoL) seminar on 10 August 2018 in Mumbai. The theme of the seminar was Going Digital-When & How? More than 100 delegates attended the seminar.

The seminar was inaugurated by Gururaj Ballarwad, president; Arunesh Bansal general secretary; Ashish Gupta, treasurer; and Ajay Aggarwal, vice president, ALPS along with Sudhir Samant, proprietor, Sudhir Samant & Associates. Ashish Gupta welcomed the august gathering followed by keynote address by Gururaj Ballarwad.

The sponsors of the evening were Avery Dennison, Domino India, Vinsak India and Xeikon. The seminar touched upon the theme ‘Going Digital-When & How?’ in five sessions.

While Vikram Saxena, general manager, sales at Xeikon addressed the myths circling around the adoption of digital technology over conventional, Ajay Rao Rane, AVP-digital printing solutions, Domino India discussed about how to minimize the challenges faced by digital label converters.  Parag Agrawal, product manager-specialty and durables, Avery Dennison India shed information on the future trends in digital printing and its growth drivers. Ranesh Bajaj, director, Vinsak India presented his perspective on why digital finishing plays a crucial role, while Ashish Gupta, managing director of Rational Business Corporation attracted the attention of the audience on the challenges being faced by Indian label industry.

The most sought after part of the evening was ground breaking panel discussion on ‘Challenges in adoption of digital technology for Indian label companies’. The experts who took the audience on the roller coaster knowledge ride were Ajay Rao Rane of Domino India, Denver Annunication of Janus International, Ranesh Bajaj of Vinsak India, Tejas Tanna of Printmann Group and Vijay Pareek of Genius Flexo Machinery. The session was moderated by Ajay Aggarwal of Syndicate Labels.

The panel addressed the burning issues of evolution of digital printing as a technology over the last few years and the experiences of the experts who have given this technology a fair chance, why Indian printers are reluctant to give a chance to the technology while their western counterparts have accepted it with great enthusiasm, and why a printer should adopt digital technology and how much time it may take to reduce the cost of digital technology consumables in comparison to the conventional flexo technology or is it just a mirage in desert.

The programme concluded with Ashish Gupta and Gururaj Ballarwad felicitating the sponsors, speakers and panelists of the seminar. The programme was moderated by Priyanka Rathi Verma of ALPS. ALPS will keep organizing such seminars on the issues which are relevant to the industry with the support of its members and Industry’s friends and colleagues.
