Domino set to rewrite the rules of coding and marking at interpack 2017

-

interpack 2017 will see global product identification and traceability specialist (Hall 11 Stand D55, Messe Düsseldorf, 4 May 2017) present the recently launched Ax-Series range of continuous inkjet (CIJ) printers, along with a host of coding and marking technologies ranging from fibre laser and thermal transfer overprinting systems to digitally printed label samples.

The Ax-Series comprises the Ax150i, the Ax350i and the Ax550i, a range of high-tech CIJ printers tailored to a wide variety of customer requirements. “We’re delighted to be showcasing our new systems at this year’s Interpack,” says David Bywater, group product director at Domino Printing Sciences. “By listening to our customers, we have optimized the Ax-Series for the most demanding industrial packaging environments.”

David Croft, global product marketing manager for CIJ at Domino Printing Sciences, elaborates further on the Ax-Series: “Domino has rewritten the rules of coding and marking by revisiting the underlying science behind CIJ and introducing innovations in three key areas, which we refer to as ‘pillars.’ These pillars of innovation are the new i-Pulse print head and inks, the i-Techx electronics and software platform, and Domino Design, a fresh approach to the total product design to maximize productivity and ease of operation.”

The i-Pulse print head controls individual ink drop formation to create perfect drops, delivering significant advances in droplet accuracy, placement and ink usage for reliable, high-speed and consistent code quality.

i-Techx is Domino’s latest high-performance electronics and software platform. It is designed to optimise customers’ return on investment throughout the printers’ lifetime and eliminate coding errors by enabling the smooth integration of the Ax-Series into the production line and service support environment. “i-Techx is set to play a significant role in Domino’s upcoming plans,” explains Croft. “It will function as a platform upon which we will build an extended range of products and services.”

Domino Design summarizes the company’s holistic design approach that delivers a step change on the current generation of CIJ systems in the market to deliver printers that are robust, reliable, and easy to use even in the harshest environments.

The F720i is Domino’s latest addition to its range of high performance, high speed fibre lasers and will also be exhibited on the company’s stand. Designed to deliver clear, legible and durable codes on aluminium cans, and with an IP65 rating, the F720i fibre laser is especially suited to withstand the wet, sugar laden environment of beverage production lines, as well as the high-speed coding demands of the beverage canning sector.

“The F720i delivers increased production speeds, more intricate and detailed promotional marketing codes, and enables manufacturers to meet their legislative requirements,” says Halyna Port, global product marketing manager for Lasers at Domino Printing Sciences.

Domino’s Digital Printing Solutions division will also have a presence at the show. The company will be displaying Textures by Domino, a vibrant range of digitally textured labels printed at 50 m/min with Domino’s N610i digital colour label press. Showcasing a set of eye-catching and tactile designs, colors and samples, stand visitors will be able to see first-hand the wide variety of effects that can be created with ink jet, at lower costs than by using textured papers.

“This unique ink jet capability is achieved by using the high opacity white ink on the N610i, which creates a silkscreen feel and eliminates the need to invest in expensive textured substrates,” says Philip Easton, director of Domino Digital Printing Solutions. “We’re always looking to discover new ways in which digital print can add value and ‘Textures by Domino’ is another example of what the label and packaging sectors can achieve with an innovative system like the N610i.”

David Bywater concludes, “Showcasing these solutions allows us to demonstrate how Domino’s versatile range of technologies is able to meet the increasing demands of the packaging industry.”
