Sihl launches dual-function security label material

Sihl has introduced Enduro MD Shield, a label material that combines RFID and NFC signal blocking with a metal-detectable layer. According to the company, the material is intended for converters serving food processing, pharmaceutical, financial and public-sector applications.

The company stated that the material shields transponder resonance circuits, reducing contactless reading ranges from several centimeters to a few millimeters. Tests conducted at 13.56 MHz are said to have shown that RFID chips protected by the shield core could not be read, making the material suitable for applications requiring higher levels of security, including government, finance and aerospace sectors.

According to the company, the metal-detectable layer allows identification of metal fragments and foreign bodies during food production processes. The material is intended for use in applications such as industrial bakeries, meat processing, dairy products, cooked meals and pet food manufacturing. A food-contact compliance declaration is available.

Enduro MD Shield is available in grammages ranging from 155 gsm to 240 gsm and carries FSC Mix Credit certification. The range includes a phenol-free thermal direct option and an OBA-free surface designed for compatibility with security inks visible under UV light.
