The India-made 550-mm line combines precision adhesive application, web handling and modular configuration for converters working with different substrates.

At LOUPE India 2026, Valco Melton introduced a new coating and laminating system designed to address the production requirements of converters working with pressure-sensitive materials and speciality coatings. The LamiX 550, developed through a joint venture with Suddha Machinery, brings coating control, web handling and application flexibility into a compact platform for narrow- to medium-width converting operations.

The machine was unveiled by Ishwar Dayal, CEO of GJ Papers; K Karan Reddy of Stic On; Ravi Kiran, director of Valco Melton; and Ashis Banerjee of Suddha Machinery. Both GJ Papers and Stic On are existing Valco Melton customers.

The launch also marks an expansion of the company’s coating and laminating equipment offering in India. The system is manufactured by Valco Melton Suddha Engineering, a joint venture between Valco Melton India Engineering and Suddha Machineries and Industries.

Bringing coating accuracy into a compact platform

With a working width of 550 mm, the LamiX 550 is a hotmelt coating line intended for converters seeking greater control over adhesive application without committing to a larger production platform.

The system combines slot-die or rotating-bar coating technology with closed-loop tension control. Automatic tension regulation and web tracking are designed to maintain material alignment during processing, while consistent coating across the web width supports finished-product quality.

For converters, the combination of coating accuracy and web handling is particularly relevant when working with different materials and product specifications. Variations in adhesive application or material alignment can affect both product quality and material consumption.

Ravi Kiran of Velco Melton said the development focused on bringing these requirements together in a compact system. “With the LamiX 550, our focus is on bringing coating accuracy, operational flexibility and ease of use together in a compact platform. Converters need equipment that helps them maintain consistent quality while managing material consumption and product changeovers. This system has been developed around those priorities.”

Flexibility across substrates and applications

The LamiX 550 accommodates paper, film, foil and nonwoven substrates, giving converters the flexibility to work across different material structures and application requirements.

Its laminating module features adjustable pressure to accommodate different substrate combinations. Multiple unwind and rewind configurations allow the line to be adapted to individual production requirements.

This flexibility is relevant for converters handling a varied product mix, where changes in substrate construction and coating requirements can influence equipment configuration and process settings.

For pressure-sensitive materials, in particular, maintaining uniform adhesive application while managing changes in substrate properties is central to achieving consistent results.

K Karan Reddy of Stic On said, “In pressure-sensitive materials, uniform adhesive application and dependable process control are critical. The LamiX 550 brings together features that address these needs, alongside flexibility for different substrates. As an existing customer, we welcome this addition to Valco Melton’s coating and laminating offering.”

Simplifying operation and changeovers

Beyond coating and laminating capabilities, the system incorporates touchscreen controls and recipe-based setup. These features are intended to simplify operation, reduce the time required for product changeovers and help operators maintain consistent process settings.

The manufacturer positions the system as a means of improving production efficiency and product consistency while minimising material consumption.

For converters managing multiple products, the ability to establish and repeat process settings can be as important as the coating technology itself. Recipe-based operation provides a way to standardise production parameters, while the modular configuration allows the equipment to be aligned with different application needs.

Ishwar Dayal of GJ Papers said consistency in coating and web handling remains fundamental for businesses working with paper and adhesive-coated materials.

“As an existing Valco Melton customer, it is encouraging to see the company introduce a compact platform focused on these requirements. We are pleased to be part of its unveiling.”

The LamiX 550 brings together coating technology, adjustable laminating pressure and configurable material handling in a single platform. Its introduction adds an India-manufactured option for converters looking to manage different substrates and coating applications within a compact production line.
