H.B. Fuller invests in oxygen barrier technology

H.B. Fuller has made a strategic investment in VerdaFresh, an advanced oxygen barrier coating technology designed to support the transition to fully recyclable packaging.

VerdaFresh’s technology integrates into H.B. Fuller’s barrier coating portfolio and is said to eliminate the need for EVOH and other non-recyclable or difficult-to-recycle barrier layers. According to the company, the solution enables mono-material packaging structures that are easier to recycle, reduces overall material use, and lowers the environmental footprint across the packaging lifecycle while maintaining shelf life and protection performance for food and consumer goods applications.

“This is about removing the biggest obstacles to recyclable packaging,” said Jim East, executive vice president of H.B. Fuller’s hygiene, health, and consumables business. “This coating solution expands our portfolio, enabling simpler, more recyclable packaging designs that reduce waste, lower carbon impact, and meet rising regulatory and consumer expectations, without compromise.”

Beyond sustainability, the company said the technology can simplify packaging structures and reduce reliance on costly multi-layer materials, offering customers both environmental and economic benefits.
