Amcor expands facility to meet demand for recyclable packaging

Amcor has invested in a new production line at its Amcor Flexibles site in Lugo di Vicenza, Italy. The recently extended facility is dedicated to the production of the company’s high-barrier recycle-ready films for a wide range of packaging formats.

According to the company, the latest department enables large-scale production of high-barrier films for lidding and pouches across a wide range of food, beverage, pet food, and healthcare applications, including AmLite HeatFlex, a breakthrough material for retort (high-heat) applications. The technology helps achieve recyclability while maintaining excellent barrier properties, and helps brands progress towards their sustainability goals and comply with upcoming regulations.

The expanded Lugo facility covers nearly 7,000 m2 and includes equipment for the entire production process, a new quality control laboratory, and an automated warehouse with temperature-controlled areas for material curing.

Elena Peron, plant general manager, said, “This new facility is the result of Amcor’s pledge to develop all our packaging to be recyclable, reusable or compostable. This expansion, combined with Amcor team’s expertise, will support our customers in making the switch to recycle-ready packaging and contribute to a more circular packaging industry”.
